# Challenge Pass Planner

Estimate how many trades — and trading days — your statistics need on average to reach a challenge profit target. This is an expectation: real outcomes vary around it, and a positive edge is required for the target to be reachable at all.

Profit target (%) Risk per trade (%) Reward-to-risk ratio (R) Win rate (%) Trades per day Calculate

## Results

Expectancy per trade (R) 0.350

Expectancy per trade (% of account) 0.350%

Breakeven win rate 33.3%

Expected trades to target 23

Expected trading days 8

## How it works

**Formula:** Expectancy per trade (in R) = win rate × R − (1 − win rate). Expectancy per trade in % of account = risk % × expectancy in R. Expected trades = target % ÷ expectancy %. Expected days = trades ÷ trades per day. Example: 45% win rate at 2R risking 1% gives 0.35% per trade; an 8% target needs ≈ 23 trades ≈ 8 days at 3 trades/day.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many trades does it take to pass a prop firm challenge?

On average: profit target divided by your per-trade expectancy. Risking 1% per trade with a 45% win rate at 2R yields 0.35% per trade, so an 8% target needs about 23 trades on average. Variance around that average is large — plan for more.

### What if my expectancy is negative?

Then no amount of trades reaches the target on average — more trading loses more. The planner flags this and shows the breakeven win rate for your reward-to-risk ratio: 1 ÷ (1 + R). At 2R you need to win more than 33.3% of trades just to break even.

### Does this guarantee I pass in that many trades?

No. These are averages of a random process — two traders with identical stats will pass at different speeds, and losing streaks can hit the drawdown limit before the target. Use it with the Risk of Ruin and Losing Streak calculators to see the full picture.
